Theorem Solutions, UK Midlands engineering interoperability specialist is further extending its ability to serve the UK manufacturing sector by joining the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). Recently established in entirely new facilities in Ansty Park, Coventry, MTC represents a £40.5million investment which has been developed in response to the Government’s manufacturing strategy, which sets out an ambitious new vision for high technology manufacturing. The focus of the MTC is to prove innovative manufacturing processes and technologies in an agile environment in partnership with industry, academia and other institutions. This means that Theorem joins founder industrial members Rolls-Royce, Aero Engine Controls and Airbus UK, and research partners including the universities of Birmingham, Nottingham, Loughborough and TWI Ltd.

Theorem will contribute to projects where data needs transforming from one format to another, where validation of translated data is essential and in the creation of automated processes including automated movement of engineering data and automatic audit trail creation.

The MTC provides a high quality environment for the development and demonstration of new technologies on an industrial scale, providing a unique opportunity for manufacturers to develop new and innovative processes and technologies in a low risk environment.

Theorem Managing Director Stuart Thurlby, pictured here with MTC Chief Executive Clive Hickman

said “We are delighted to be joining MTC and we look forward to being active members at this excellent facility. We will be pleased to contribute our expertise to appropriate projects and look forward to working with the other members of the MTC to improve British manufacturing skills and processes.”

Theorem Solutions CATIA V5 CADverter for PTC’s Arbortext IsoDraw application, the industry standard for the creation of Technical Illustration data delivers unrivaled translation capabilities to the heart of the IsoDraw environment.

Previously, CATIA models could only be imported using IGES (the Initial Graphics Exchange System) – a process requiring dedicated time and effort from illustrators and product designers.

The CATIA V5 to IsoDraw CADverter from Theorem is a simple and affordable solution providing a breakthrough in communication between design and technical publications functions.

Offered as standalone product from the source CAD application, CADverter for IsoDraw provides a highly cost-effective and easy to use bridge between CATIA V5 and the technical illustration process

Being able to use CATIA V5 design data within the technical illustration process brings a wealth of benefits and competitive edge in the global market place.

The CATIA V5 to IsoDraw CADverter removes labour intensive manual work involved in creating illustrations for product documentation as CATIA V5 data can now be used directly.

The result, significant time savings that help minimize the production time and costs of documentation.

Government vision that supply chain excellence will play an important part in accelerating the current resurgence of UK design, engineering and manufacturing, has led to the creation of a £1.3 million project which has received over £640,000 funding from the government-backed Technology Strategy Board.

Known as VE-DRIVE (from V irtual E nterprise – D igital R esource, I ntegration, V isualisation & E xploitation) the project brings together specific knowledge and expertise from four project partners under the lead of Jaguar Land Rover and including BAE, Holovis International and Theorem Solutions.

Theorem Solutions will undertake the development and integration of new and emerging digital technology that will enable UK engineering and manufacturing to improve their operating efficiency to levels where cost and time savings will provide significant worldwide competitive advantage.

Don Philips, Theorem Solutions Sales Director and project lead said, “ We are delighted to be partnering with such prestigious companies in this major Technology Strategy Board supported project . Each partner has something different to bring and we at Theorem have a long and successful history of providing the engineering and manufacturing community with a range of solutions for design and engineering collaboration. In addition we are developing interoperability solutions and automated processes that span the many different data types in common use in engineering supply chains as well as providing other essentials such as validation and checking and audit trail detail. Our role in the VE-DRIVE project is to provide a solution which brings together the different data used by the different tiers in the supply chain and to make the interchange simple and highly efficient.”

He added “In addition to well established data exchange software products, Theorem Solutions has over 200 man years interoperability experience in our consultancy team and has recently announced a number of process based interoperability solutions written by our own development team in Tamworth. It is our combination of expertise and development resource that makes us confident of being able to meet this challenge.”

Theorem Solutions latest DGN to JT CADverter, developed to bridge the gap between the world of Plant Design and Mechanical CAD is now available!

Theorem’s DGN to JT CADverter resolves the issue of incompatible data formats and has the ability to complete full design reviews of combined data sets when plant and mechanical CAD design paths meet.

Theorem’s latest *.DGN to JT CADverter helps bring designs to life and opens up new capabilities for DGN data.

JT data can read directly by the Siemens mechanical CAD applications NX, NX I-DEAS and SolidEdge, effectively enabling users to access and work with Microstation data undertaking design in context activities.

The DGN to JT CADverter enables the DGN and Mechanical CAD user to combine data from both mechanical design systems and the Microstation application, allowing reviews of combined datasets to be performed.

Users of the DGN to JT CADverter can now benefit from:

Viewing a virtual reality mockup of an entire plant/ship incorporating newly designed components from external MCAD systems to see how they fit available space prior to manufacture.

Generate a number of JT data types that can be opened and shared with number of external MCAD applications

The CADverter integrates into an active Microstation environment but operates completely independently of any JT applications.

Multiple versions of DGN supported, all versions of JT supported

Capture and share live, accurate 3D data quickly and easily

Helping the CATIA Community to work with JT data

Theorem Solutions is pleased to announce the availability of their latest visualization products helping resolve the issue of working with JT data for the CATIA community.

Theorem’s JT to 3DXML CADverter makes accurate JT data available to users of CATIA V5, 3DLive, 3DVIA Composer, Delmia and Enovia.

With the use of Dassault Systemes strategic XCAD and Siemens JT Open technology ensures full compatibility, delivers high quality data and business benefits with the latest version of Theorem’s JT to 3DXML CADverter.

The resulting 3DXML data is a full and complete translation of the JT file, including Brep solids and surfaces, tessellated data, PMI (product manufacturing information), structure and colour. It provides users with new methods and extends the use of design data within a business enterprise and across supply chains.

Theorem customers will be immediately familiar with the interactive user interface for the translation of small numbers of files but it is likely that many organisations will gain significant benefit by running Theorem’s JT to 3DXML translator via the command line interface integrated in to their PLM environments.

Theorem’s JT to 3DXML CADverter is easy to use, saves a user time and reduces costs through not having to re-work data, also removing the occurrence of manual errors.

The JT to 3DXML product is available on Windows XP, Vista and 7, 32Bit and 64Bit platforms. Access to a licensed copy of CATIA V5 is required for operation.

Theorem’s JT to 3DXML CADverter is available immediately.

Theorem’s latest Universal CATIA translator for NX automatically differentiates between CATIA V5 and V4 data files and converts them to NX in a single operation.

This single translator accepts all combinations of CATIA V4 or CATIA V5 data and processes it directly into the Siemens NX file format. It doesn’t matter if the CATIA V4 data is in EXPORT, MODEL, SESSION or CATIA V4 Assembly Modeller format as they are all seamlessly processed from CATIA to the NX file format.

In addition, when processing CATIA V5 data, the same translator is capable of processing all combinations of CATProduct or CATPart files or even CATProducts that include references to native CATIA V4 models.

CATIA and NX are widely used in many long-term design projects and it is not unusual for design and manufacturing companies to employ both CATIA V4 and CATIA V5 on production work. Other supply chain partners may operate NX, resulting in collaborative projects that can involve a mix of two CATIA file formats as well as NX data. A further complication is that CATIA V5 assemblies may incorporate embedded CATIA V4 files – a fact that might not become apparent until there is a need to undertake data translation.

Providing a complete solution within a single product, Theorem’s Universal CATIA to NX CADverter eliminates the need for users to identify which version of CATIA the target data is supplied in. It not only identifies and converts mixed native CATIA V5 and V4 files automatically, but also recognizes and translates CATIA V5 assemblies that include embedded V4 data – all without operator input.

Most single version translators are unable to accommodate such shared format assemblies, Theorem’s Universal CATIA CADverter more than exceeds the capabilities of separate products – as even a combination of stand-alone V5 and V4 translators will fail to meet all user requirements.

Theorems Universal CATIA CADverter is a specifically designed translator supporting both 32bit and 64bit processing to CATIA V5 R21 and NX 8.

Priced as a single translator with a single maintenance cost the latest offering from Theorem resolves two data issues with a single solution saving time, effort and money!

Theorem Solutions is pleased to announce the availability of their latest visualization products helping resolve the issue of sharing data between the Autodesk Inventor and PTC Creo View formats.

Theorem’s Autodesk Inventor Adapter for Creo View (formerly ProductView) is a completely unique solution designed to aid supply chain collaboration!
The adapter rapidly and accurately publishes 3D mechanical design geometry parts, assemblies and 2D drawings, together with attribute information to the compact format used by the Creo View application.

Now available on both Windows 32BIT & 64BIT platforms, users can digitally mock-up and interrogate native Inventor data within the Creo View environment.

The latest 64Bit Adapter allows data to be as large and complex as required, maintaining full application functionality!

The adapter can be integrated into WindChill, DIVISION Graphics Server or other PDM environments.

To improve the performance of an overall conversion process, the user may select a subset of the input Inventor data to be processed, allowing the conversion process to operate on only those items that are of specific interest to the user.

Partnering both Autodesk and PTC enables Theorem’s products and solutions to consistently keep pace with vendor software releases and development cycles, making sure their advanced data translation tools always deliver the latest functionality to support the demanding needs of the user.

Theorem Solutions provides long term data archiving solutions using STEP and JT to Archive Engineering and Manufacturing data!

Businesses of all sizes must archive engineering and manufacturing data in order to meet legal and product liability obligations, however, historically, it has only ever been possible to archive 2D data using formats like Tiff, CGM or even microfilm. Whereas today’s 3D data contains much richer content and can be archived as full representations.

3D CAD data is proprietary though, so unsuitable for long term data archiving. Eventually, operating systems and hardware used to create and store 3D data will also become obsolete.

STEP and JT are now considered the safest formats to use because they are neutral standards based formats that aren’t proprietary

Choosing a format to get proprietary data into is not a complete solution!

Using Theorem’s Long Term Data Archiving Solutions powered by TPM (Theorem Process Manager) which incorporates automated validation & checking procedures at the point of archive completes the process by avoiding corrupt or invalid legacy data being stored.

Theorem’s automated Long Term Data Archiving tools stop the costly problem of legacy data arising.
The need to get NX data in and out of the Creo format or vice versa can be an issue when you are working with a partner who uses NX.

Theorem’s NX to/from Creo Parametric translators provide high quality, cost effective uni and bi-directional solutions to aid users to work with and share data throughout their supply chains. Developed using both the Siemens NX User Function API and the PTC Pro/Toolkit API Theorem’s translators can be integrated into an active environment for single translations or can be run using a command line interface for higher volume needs.

CADviewer, Theorem’s inbuilt viewer enables data to be visualized and interrogated prior to and after conversion.

The NX/Creo parametric translator supports up to version 8 of NX and Creo 1.0 operating on both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows platforms.

Theorem has been solving incompatible data issues for 20+ years for many of the leading Auto, Aero, Defense and Power Generation companies who design and share data using a variety of data types.

Native and Mixed CATIA V5 and V4 Data Automatically Converted to JT format

Theorem’s latest Universal CATIA translator for JT both streamlines and simplifies data translation and collaborative working, by automatically differentiating between CATIA V5 and V4 data files and converting them to JT in a single operation.

CATIA and JT are widely used in many long-term design projects and it is not unusual for design and manufacturing companies to employ both CATIA V4 and CATIA V5 on production work. Other supply chain partners may operate JT, resulting in collaborative projects that can involve a mix of two CATIA file formats as well as JT data. A further complication is that CATIA V5 assemblies may incorporate embedded CATIA V4 files – a fact that might not become apparent until there is a need to undertake data translation.

Providing a complete solution within a single product, Theorem’s Universal CATIA to JT CADverter eliminates the need for users to identify which version of CATIA the target data is supplied in. It not only identifies and converts mixed native CATIA V5 and V4 files automatically, but also recognizes and translates CATIA V5 assemblies that include embedded V4 data – all without operator input.

Because most single version translators are unable to accommodate such shared format assemblies, Theorem’s new Universal CATIA CADverter more than exceeds the capabilities of separate products – as even a combination of stand-alone V5 and V4 translators will fail to meet all user requirements.

Operation of the new CADverter could not be easier or more effective. For example, when working on a batch of files via the command line interface, users simply direct Theorem’s new translator at a folder containing mixed CATIA models and assemblies indicate the translation parameters to be applied; specify the destination folder and press enter. They can then move on to other tasks while the Universal CATIA CADverter for JT translates the target files without the need for any further operator interaction.

Theorems Universal CATIA CADverter is a specifically designed translator supporting both 32bit and 64bit processing to CATIA V5 R21 and all versions of JT. Priced as a single translator with a single maintenance cost the latest offering from Theorem saves time, effort and money!

Work interactively with native CAD Data from within your CATIA V5 design session

Staffordshire UK, 9 th January 2012 Theorem Solutions unique CATIA V5 ‘Multi-CAD’ solution enables CATIA V5 users to work interactively with native cad data from within a CATIA V5 Design Session!

Theorems latest CATIA V5 Multi-CAD Solutions are available on Theorem’s CADverter 14 software supporting up to CATIA V5 R21 allowing users to access native NX AND Creo Parametric data from within an active CATIA V5 Design Session.

Theorem’s Multi-CAD product removes both the cost and the complexity of working with both CATIA V5 data and non CATIA data on a single project

Developed to remove three major interoperability hurdles:

The need to have designers quit a design session to use external translators

Poor quality files missing vital geometry and attribute data

Use of the wrong version of a source file

Theorem’s Multi-CAD solution enables CATIA V5 users to incorporate non-CATIA V5 parts and assemblies within the CATIA V5 environment – without external translators. Working within CATIA V5, the user simply selects the “Insert” tab at the top of the CATIA screen and moves to the “Existing component” selector on the ensuing drop down menu.

Multi-CAD is not only easier to use and more cost effective, it is also much more secure than a traditional ‘translate and import’ process, in which there is never a link between source and translated files.

This separation between CATIAV5 and imported, non- CATIA V5 data, when employing external translators, has always been a major problem for users, in that any changes to the NX or Creo data would not be updated in the CATIA V5 design. However, with Theorem’s Multi-CAD product, CATIA V5 maintains and manages the links with the original files. Consequently, if there are changes within the non-CATIA V5 components or assemblies, these will be automatically reflected in CATIA V5 itself.

Theorem’s CATIA V5 Multi-CAD tool now supports 64Bit processing so files can be as large and complex as required!

Developed using Dassault Systemes XCAD technology platform the creation of this ever advancing product ensures that the data imported is of the highest quality.

Theorem Release Plant Design to Mechanical CAD Translators r esolving the issue of incompatible data formats across Industries

Staffordshire UK, 5th January 2012: Theorem Solutions, world leading supplier of PLM interoperability solutions provides latest DGN to CATIA V5 CADverter, developed to bridge the gap between the world of Plant Design and Mechanical CAD, resolving the issues of incompatible data formats and the ability to complete full design reviews of combined data sets when these two design paths meet.

The Microstation (DGN) to CATIA V5 CADverter has been designed specifically to take data from Microstation into CATIA V5 and Delmia. Normally these two design disciplines are used within different areas of an organisation but when they have to share data issues can arise. The primary issues being the incompatible data formats that exist between Microstation and CATIA V5 and Delmia.

Theorem’s CADverter provides a solution to this problem. It enables CATIA and Delmia users to take Microstation shared cell instances or reference files which are used to define product structure and create CATproducts in CATIA V5 or Delmia. Then by taking individual Microstation geometric items and creating a CATpart or CGR representation it creates geometric representations for use in CATIA V5 or Delmia.

The Microstation to CATIA V5 CADverter enables the CATIA V5 or Delmia user to take building or plant designs from Microstation and use them with Product Data in CATIA or with Digital Manufacturing and Production definitions in Delmia.

Theorem’s DGN to V5 CADverter has been developed using both the Bentley Microstation and Dassault Systemes API’s guaranteeing compatibility with latest vendor releases.

Theorem Solutions provides fully tailored solutions to meet any data Validation & Checking requirement in-line with existing company procedures and processes.

Theorem Solutions Validation and Checking Solutions can be incorporated into any translation process to verify that the resulting translated data is the same as the original source data, helping to overcome one of the most challenging aspects of data exchange.

Whatever data validation & checking process used, if any at all, Theorem has the ability to automate the entire process guaranteeing the resulting data is what it says it is!

Generic processes can be developed removing the manual and time consuming task of the checker to compare every reported message from each translation.

Theorem’s Process Manager (TPM) automatically summarizes them in to a report. If and only if the messages indicate a condition that should be checked, will an exception report be produced and a requirement for manual examination of a specific translation is then automatically triggered.

Theorem’s solutions support all common validation types including: Mass Properties, Cloud of Points and PMI/MBD.

Different data types that can be validated & checked include: 3D CAD Geometry, 3D Product Structure, 3D CAD PMI (GD&T), 2D Data.

Theorem’s Validation and Checking solutions:

Save time and resource by automating manual data checking procedures

Verify translated data is the same as the original source data with fully automated processes

Summarized notifications are automatically produced, highlighting potential issues arising from translation

Tailored solutions to meet any data validation & checking requirement inline with existing procedures and processes

All common data validation types supported including: Mass Properties, Cloud of Points and PMI/MBD

Staffordshire UK, 5th December 2011: Theorem Solutions, world leading supplier of PLM interoperability solutions is pleased to announce the availability of the latest JT for 3DVIA Composer CADverter for V6R2012. Theorem’s CADverter provides interactive, batch and command line interfaces for 3DVIA users to directly access JT data independently of any JT products.

Interactive 3DVIA Composer users can now simply open JT data, including geometry, assemblies, product structure, meta data and PMI. All that is required is a selection from a pull down menu for quick and easy use of JT files for the creation of assembly and disassembly procedures, technical illustrations, interactive 3D product experiences, training materials, marketing materials, sales tools and more.

Working within the Dassault Systèmes’ 3DVIA Composer architecture Theorem’s CADverter provides two additional ways for the 3DVIA user to incorporate JT data. The need to work with multiple JT files in a batch is met by using the 3DVIA Sync interface and a command line interface enables integration with PLM applications through 3DVIA Enterprise Sync.

The integration of CADverter and 3DVIA Composer is more than a technical innovation. This new CADverter enables 3DVIA Composer users in enterprises of all sizes to work with JT files to meet and overcome longstanding business challenges of reducing costs, improving quality and reducing timescales.

Theorem’s Product Development Manager Steve Bee comments “There is a fast growing trend for the re-use of 3D design data across business enterprises. Wider use of 3D data brings tangible business benefits and we are delighted that Theorem technology is being applied from within 3DVIA to make this happen”
