Long Term Data Archiving (LTDA) Solutions using STEP and JT

Theorem Solutions provides long term data archiving solutions using STEP and JT to Archive Engineering and Manufacturing data!

Businesses of all sizes must archive engineering and manufacturing data in order to meet legal and product liability obligations, however, historically, it has only ever been possible to archive 2D data using formats like Tiff, CGM or even microfilm. Whereas today’s 3D data contains much richer content and can be archived as full representations.

3D CAD data is proprietary though, so unsuitable for long term data archiving. Eventually, operating systems and hardware used to create and store 3D data will also become obsolete.

STEP and JT are now considered the safest formats to use because they are neutral standards based formats that aren’t proprietary

Choosing a format to get proprietary data into is not a complete solution!

Using Theorem’s Long Term Data Archiving Solutions powered by TPM (Theorem Process Manager) which incorporates automated validation & checking procedures at the point of archive completes the process by avoiding corrupt or invalid legacy data being stored.

Theorem’s automated Long Term Data Archiving tools stop the costly problem of legacy data arising. Theorem can tailor and automate the entire archival process in-line with existing procedures and processes to migrate current 3D design data into the STEP or JT data formats then validate and check that the archived data has been correctly created and stored. Email notifications are sent at every point of the process!

Theorem’s automated Long Term Data Archiving solutions can be of benefit:

  • Remove the cost of maintaining Legacy Data and Proprietary Systems
  • Provide a solution to stop the problem of legacy data arising again
  • Help maintain data for 35-50 years
  • Integrate and automate validation and checking applications in to the process.

Latest integrated NX and Creo (Proe) Solutions

Theorem Solutions is pleased to announce the availability of their latest translation products helping resolve the issue of sharing data between the Siemens NX and PTC Creo Parametric formats.

The need to get NX data in and out of the Creo format or vice versa can be an issue when you are working with a partner who uses NX.

Theorem’s NX to/from Creo Parametric translators provide high quality, cost effective uni and bi-directional solutions to aid users to work with and share data throughout their supply chains. Developed using both the Siemens NX User Function API and the PTC Pro/Toolkit API Theorem’s translators can be integrated into an active environment for single translations or can be run using a command line interface for higher volume needs.

CADviewer, Theorem’s inbuilt viewer enables data to be visualized and interrogated prior to and after conversion.

The NX/Creo parametric translator supports up to version 8 of NX and Creo 1.0 operating on both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows platforms.

Theorem has been solving incompatible data issues for 20+ years for many of the leading Auto, Aero, Defense and Power Generation companies who design and share data using a variety of data types.

Two separate CATIA to JT translators as a single solution

Native and Mixed CATIA V5 and V4 Data Automatically Converted to JT format

Theorem’s latest Universal CATIA translator for JT both streamlines and simplifies data translation and collaborative working, by automatically differentiating between CATIA V5 and V4 data files and converting them to JT in a single operation.

CATIA and JT are widely used in many long-term design projects and it is not unusual for design and manufacturing companies to employ both CATIA V4 and CATIA V5 on production work. Other supply chain partners may operate JT, resulting in collaborative projects that can involve a mix of two CATIA file formats as well as JT data. A further complication is that CATIA V5 assemblies may incorporate embedded CATIA V4 files – a fact that might not become apparent until there is a need to undertake data translation.

Providing a complete solution within a single product, Theorem’s Universal CATIA to JT CADverter eliminates the need for users to identify which version of CATIA the target data is supplied in. It not only identifies and converts mixed native CATIA V5 and V4 files automatically, but also recognizes and translates CATIA V5 assemblies that include embedded V4 data – all without operator input.

Because most single version translators are unable to accommodate such shared format assemblies, Theorem’s new Universal CATIA CADverter more than exceeds the capabilities of separate products – as even a combination of stand-alone V5 and V4 translators will fail to meet all user requirements.

Operation of the new CADverter could not be easier or more effective. For example, when working on a batch of files via the command line interface, users simply direct Theorem’s new translator at a folder containing mixed CATIA models and assemblies indicate the translation parameters to be applied; specify the destination folder and press enter. They can then move on to other tasks while the Universal CATIA CADverter for JT translates the target files without the need for any further operator interaction.

Theorems Universal CATIA CADverter is a specifically designed translator supporting both 32bit and 64bit processing to CATIA V5 R21 and all versions of JT.  Priced as a single translator with a single maintenance cost the latest offering from Theorem saves time, effort and money!

Multi-CAD Solutions aid interactive design

Work interactively with native CAD Data from within your CATIA V5 design session

Staffordshire UK, 9 th January 2012 Theorem Solutions unique CATIA V5 ‘Multi-CAD’ solution enables CATIA V5 users to work interactively with native cad data from within a CATIA V5 Design Session!

Theorems latest CATIA V5 Multi-CAD Solutions are available on Theorem’s CADverter 14 software supporting up to CATIA V5 R21 allowing users to access native NX AND Creo Parametric data from within an active CATIA V5 Design Session.

Theorem’s Multi-CAD product removes both the cost and the complexity of working with both CATIA V5 data and non CATIA data on a single project

Developed to remove three major interoperability hurdles:

  • The need to have designers quit a design session to use external translators
  • Poor quality files missing vital geometry and attribute data
  • Use of the wrong version of a source file

Theorem’s Multi-CAD solution enables CATIA V5 users to incorporate non-CATIA V5 parts and assemblies within the CATIA V5 environment – without external translators. Working within CATIA V5, the user simply selects the “Insert” tab at the top of the CATIA screen and moves to the “Existing component” selector on the ensuing drop down menu.

Multi-CAD is not only easier to use and more cost effective, it is also much more secure than a traditional ‘translate and import’ process, in which there is never a link between source and translated files.

This separation between CATIAV5 and imported, non- CATIA V5 data, when employing external translators, has always been a major problem for users, in that any changes to the NX or Creo data would not be updated in the CATIA V5 design. However, with Theorem’s Multi-CAD product, CATIA V5 maintains and manages the links with the original files. Consequently, if there are changes within the non-CATIA V5 components or assemblies, these will be automatically reflected in CATIA V5 itself.

Theorem’s CATIA V5 Multi-CAD tool now supports 64Bit processing so files can be as large and complex as required!

Developed using Dassault Systemes XCAD technology platform the creation of this ever advancing product ensures that the data imported is of the highest quality.

Theorem Release Plant Design to Mechanical CAD Translators

Theorem Release Plant Design to Mechanical CAD Translators r esolving the issue of incompatible data formats across Industries

Staffordshire UK, 5th January 2012: Theorem Solutions, world leading supplier of PLM interoperability solutions provides latest DGN to CATIA V5 CADverter, developed to bridge the gap between the world of Plant Design and Mechanical CAD, resolving the issues of incompatible data formats and the ability to complete full design reviews of combined data sets when these two design paths meet.

The Microstation (DGN) to CATIA V5 CADverter has been designed specifically to take data from Microstation into CATIA V5 and Delmia. Normally these two design disciplines are used within different areas of an organisation but when they have to share data issues can arise. The primary issues being the incompatible data formats that exist between Microstation and CATIA V5 and Delmia.

Theorem’s CADverter provides a solution to this problem. It enables CATIA and Delmia users to take Microstation shared cell instances or reference files which are used to define product structure and create CATproducts in CATIA V5 or Delmia. Then by taking individual Microstation geometric items and creating a CATpart or CGR representation it creates geometric representations for use in CATIA V5 or Delmia.

The Microstation to CATIA V5 CADverter enables the CATIA V5 or Delmia user to take building or plant designs from Microstation and use them with Product Data in CATIA or with Digital Manufacturing and Production definitions in Delmia.

Theorem’s DGN to V5 CADverter has been developed using both the Bentley Microstation and Dassault Systemes API’s guaranteeing compatibility with latest vendor releases.
